Our Avantium Renewable Polymers business unit develops and commercialises our proprietary plants-to-plastics YXY® Technology, With this technology Avantium converts sugars from plants into FDCA (furan dicarboxylic acid) - the main building block of the high-performance, fully recyclable and degradable plastic PEF (polyethylene furanoate). We have fully proven the technology in our pilot plant in Geleen and we are now starting the construction of the world's first commercial FDCA plant in Delfzijl, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The Flagship will produce 5 kilotonnes of FDCA annually.

Avantium is looking for a (Jr) Technologist Analytics to support the world's first commercial FDCA plant in Delfzijl.

The analytical team provides the analytical solution for process, product and application development within Renewable Polymers (RNP) business unit. For the technology and Innovation Department, we are looking for a (Jr) Technologist Analytics. The analytical team provides a broad range of analytics, from standard methods to sophisticated techniques. The analytical team works closely together with project teams, and the monomer and polymer & application development teams.

Responsibility

The (Jr) Technologist Analytics position within Renewable Polymers Business Unit (RNP) will contribute to process and product development projects by executing sample preparations and performing analyses based on various analytical techniques. The (Jr) Technologist Analytics will report into the Analytical Team of the Technology and Innovation department of RNP.

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who will take the following responsibilities:

  • Support R&D projects by sample preparations and dilutions.
  • Perform routine analytical project activities; KF, titrations, UV and pH.
  • Process of data from chromatographic analysis like (U)HPLC and GC.
  • Execution of polymer analytics (GPC, IV, NMR, titrations), including data processing, validation, documentation and reporting of analytical results.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment.
  • Identify issues during sample preparations or analysis.
  • Likes to work in the lab.
  • Communicate proactively with your colleagues, project and team leaders, including planning, managing timelines and reporting.

What do you bring?

To be successful in our team you:

  • Bring an MLO or HLO degree in Analytical Chemistry with (few) years of experience.
  • Experience on performing polymer analytics, GPC, IV, NMR.
  • Have hands-on experience in analytical lab work activities like sample preparations, titrations, KF, UV analysis and data processing of chromatographic analysis.
  • Are able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Are a team player, results oriented, flexible and pragmatic self-starter.
  • Bring good communication and reporting skills in English and preferably Dutch.
  • Actively contribute to the safety in our laboratory, adhere to our Health & Safety regulations.
