What does Auckland have to offer?
Auckland consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world with its stunning natural landscapes, mix of cultures and world class entertainment. Working in the Auckland Region you will have the opportunity to work alongside our passionate and knowledgeable senior clinicians who will provide you with world class supervision and mentorship.
Working as a Neurology Registrar
Neurology encompasses the science, investigation and treatment of all inherited and acquired diseases affecting the nervous and neuromuscular systems. Working in neurology you will be dealing with disorders ranging from diseases of muscle to disorders of cognitive function and behaviour and using clinical tools ranging from the bedside clinical assessment, through electrophysiology and molecular biology to functional neuroimaging. For additional information visit The Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) website.
The neurology registrar will work at Auckland City Hospital, but there may be opportunities to work at other hospitals in the region. There are four positions accredited for advanced trainees in neurology and two positions for trainees in other advanced training programmes or basic trainees. The clinical duties are similar except advanced trainees in neurology will be expected to attend subspecialty clinics, including neurophysiology.
Medicine Registrar Runs
The six month rotation includes working in an inpatient neurology unit, an acute stroke unit, and supervised outpatient clinics, as well being responsible for the initial assessment of patients presenting with acute neurological problems. After hours, registrars participate in a 1 in 6 call roster and at times will be required to cover other medical subspecialties. Registrars are also active in the teaching and supervision of medical students and house-officers. Example run descriptions for the 2023 training year can be viewed on the Auckland Doctors website.
